BIOGRAPHY

Connor Martin is a New York City based a cappella producer, percussionist, composer, arranger, recording engineer and singer. Originally from Warrington, Pennsylvania, he graduated summa cum laude in 2018 from Hofstra University with a BS in Music Performance. Connor studied percussion with Sean Ritenauer and Montgomery Hatch. During his time at Hofstra, he performed over 60 times around campus in ensembles of varying sizes and premiered a handful of works. He received many awards and accolades from the Hofstra Music Department including the prestigious Rhoda P. Levin Honors Recital and Scholarship. He has performed with reputable ensembles such as the American Chamber Ensemble and Evoco Voice Collective. He has played in pits for musicals such as Godspell, Pippin, The Little Mermaid, and Spongebob Squarepants to name a few. Most notably, he helped orchestrate the percussion book for the Off-Broadway musical entitled Bright and Brave, which he also performed in.

Since his start at Hofstra, Connor has become a force to be reckoned within the a cappella community. As a student, he music directed The Hofbeats for 2.5 years, and was a large part of their success, leading them to their first Quarterfinal victory in the 2018 ICCA tournament. Since graduating, with the help of his arrangements and studio production, they have advanced to ICCA Semifinals in 3 consecutive years (2021-2023), and have been nominated for 7 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARAs). He started his post-grad a cappella journey as the production apprentice of Jacob Tourjeman with The Vocal Company (TVC), where he worked with groups such as The Nor'easters, The Vassar Devils, Faux Paz, Aquapella and many more. In 2020, Connor started his own company entitled Martin Music Productions that specializes in a variety of different recording and music production services. Connor has been nominated for almost 100 CARAs since his start in the industry and only plans on making that number grow.

 

Aside from music production, he is a frequent judge for the International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) and has a plethora of arrangements for contemporary a cappella and choir, including three that were nominated for CARAs in the arranging categories and one that garnered an ICCA Outstanding Arrangement Award. He is the co-founder, bass, and music director of Black to Gold, a pro a-cappella group formed in 2019 with 13 CARA nominations.

As a composer, Connor co-wrote a musical with Christine Harvey entitled With or Without You that made its off-broadway debut in May 2019 at Theatre Row NYC. The cast album for the show was recorded, edited, mixed and mastered entirely by Connor, and is now available on all streaming platforms. The show was a finalist for the Rave Musical Theater Festival in 2020 before it was cancelled due to COVID-19. He also has composed music for a few short films with student film-makers.

Aside from recording, percussion, composition and a cappella, he music directs and conducts high school musicals in the Yorktown Heights School District, loves to workshop and educate high school and middle school musicians, and is a proud member of Evoco Voice Collective. He also enjoys watching football and baseball, The Good Place, traveling, and spending time with his family, his girlfriend, and his cats.
